The Supreme Court of Pakistan has posthumously sentenced former President Pervez Musharraf to death, a year after his demise. Born in Delhi in 1943, Musharraf rose through the ranks to become Pakistan's Army Chief by 1998. In 1999, he seized power, and in 2001, he became President. However, his imposition of emergency in 2007 led to legal consequences. In 2019, a Special Court sentenced him to death, but he had already left the country, citing illness. The Lahore High Court overturned the decision in 2020, but the Supreme Court reinstated the death penalty on January 10, 2024, raising questions about sentencing a deceased individual.
