Established between 1584 and 1598 during Akbar's reign, Lahore became the capital, with the creation of a district known as Shahi Mohalla. Over time, it transformed into a renowned area for courtesans. During the 18th century, Nadir Shah and Ahmad Shah's attacks altered its fate, leading to the establishment of the first red-light district in Lahore. The Sikh era under Maharaja Ranjit Singh revived the culture during which General Heera Singh Dogra initiated Heera Mandi. Despite the cultural significance, British rule, Afghan invasions, and later political changes brought fluctuating fortunes to this historic place in Lahore. #heeramandi #lahore #pakistan
