However, after his death in 1316, the Khilji Dynasty began to crumble rapidly. What followed was not just a political downfall but a shocking twist in history—a Hindu-born slave named Khusro Khan, who had converted to Islam, rose to power and played a key role in bringing down the very dynasty that once ruled over him. Khusro Khan was captured during Alauddin’s conquests in Gujarat and later converted to Islam. Rising through the ranks due to his charm and military skill, he became a close companion of Mubarak Shah, Alauddin’s son. Eventually, in a dramatic turn of events, Khusro Khan assassinated Mubarak Shah and took the throne, becoming the Sultan of Delhi for a brief period in 1320. However, his rule was short-lived and chaotic, and soon the Tughlaq Dynasty replaced the Khiljis.
