The Kohinoor diamond, renowned as the "Mountain of Light," carries a history of opulence and intrigue. Originating from the Golconda mines in Andhra Pradesh during the 12th to 14th centuries, it became part of the Kakatiya Dynasty's treasures. Eventually, it fell into the hands of various rulers, including Babur and Shah Jahan, who embedded it in the Peacock Throne. In 1739, Persian ruler Nadir Shah looted Delhi, acquiring the Kohinoor. The diamond passed through multiple hands until Maharaja Ranjit Singh of Punjab claimed it in 1813. After Ranjit Singh's demise in 1839, the British annexed Punjab in 1849, taking possession of the Kohinoor. In 1850, Lord Dalhousie orchestrated its transfer to Queen Victoria, sparking controversies. The diamond, now residing in the Tower of London's Jewel House, symbolizes British colonial history. Legends surround its supposed curse, and its journey reflects the tumultuous events of Indian history. The Kohinoor remains a subject of debate, with calls for its return to India. Its captivating saga, from ancient mines to royal thrones and colonial possession, intertwines with the complex narrative of India's cultural heritage. #kohinoor #history
