Was Razia Sultan really the first female ruler of India, or is this one of the biggest myths in history? This video uncovers the hidden truth about powerful women rulers who existed centuries before Razia Sultan but were forgotten over time. Long before the Delhi Sultanate, queens like Naganika were already exercising political and religious power. Inscriptions from Naneghat prove that she conducted major Vedic rituals and issued coins jointly with the king, showing her authority in governance and economy. Later, during the Gupta era, Prabhavati Gupta ruled the Vakataka kingdom as a regent for nearly two decades. Copper plate inscriptions clearly show that she was not a puppet ruler but an independent authority who managed administration, diplomacy, and regional stability. In Odisha, Tribhuvana Mahadevi I took full sovereign power instead of ruling from behind the scenes. Historical records suggest she commanded a massive army, possibly including women soldiers, and used both religion and military strength to consolidate her rule. Kashmir witnessed one of the most powerful and controversial queens in Indian history — Didda. Despite political conspiracies and opposition, she ruled for nearly 45 years, using strategy, alliances, and ruthless decisions to stabilize the kingdom. Her story is recorded in Rajatarangini. In Gujarat, Naiki Devi defeated Muhammad Ghori in the famous Battle of Kasahrada (1178 CE), delaying Islamic expansion into India for decades. Meanwhile, in South India, Rudrama Devi ruled as a “Maharaja,” breaking gender norms and restructuring the military through the Nayaka system. So why is Razia Sultan called the first female ruler? The answer lies in how history was written. Colonial historians relied heavily on Persian chronicles like Tabaqat-i-Nasiri, which focused on the Delhi Sultanate. Since Razia ruled from Delhi — the political center — her story became part of “mainstream history,” while other powerful queens were reduced to regional narratives. This video challenges the conventional narrative and reveals the forgotten empresses of India — rulers who shaped history but were erased from popular memory. 👉 Watch till the end to discover the real story behind India’s first women rulers. #RaziaSultan #IndianHistory #HiddenHistory #WomenInHistory #Didda #RudramaDevi #NaikiDevi #AncientIndia #HistoryExplained #UntoldHistory #IndianQueens Prepare Smarter for UPSC Prelims with History Connect Test Series Join History Connect UPSC Test Series 👉 Enrol Now: https://www.historyconnect.in/courses/786040 📲 Download the App Today : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=co.rios.fltls This story is presented by Siddharth Singh Through the annals of history, our storyteller Siddharth Singh, brings to you the most exciting stories about ancient India, mythology, unknown mysteries and fascinating facts from the past..
