Famous examples include the Nawabs of Awadh, Bengal, and Carnatic, who played a crucial role in both regional politics and the colonial struggles against the British East India Company. The “Nizam” title became famous with the rulers of Hyderabad. Originally appointed as Mughal governors, the Nizams later established their own independent dynasty. The word “Nizam” means “order” or “system,” highlighting their role as administrators and rulers. Hyderabad under the Nizams was one of the richest princely states, maintaining its identity even during British rule until its integration into modern India.
