Why did three of the most powerful kingdoms of early medieval India fight for nearly 200 years over one city? This **Kannauj History** documentary explores the extraordinary story of Kannauj and the Tripartite Struggle between the Gurjara-Pratiharas, Palas and Rashtrakutas. Once one of the most important political and economic centers of North India, Kannauj stood at a crucial position within the ancient Uttarapatha trade network. Controlling the city meant access to important trade routes, agricultural wealth and enormous political prestige. But the struggle for Kannauj became a long cycle of war. The Gurjara-Pratiharas fought from the west, the Palas from the east, while the Rashtrakutas repeatedly marched north from the Deccan and changed the balance of power.
