Starting as mere traders in the early 1600s, the East India Company exploited internal rivalries, corruption, and weak rulers to gradually take control of India. Through cunning diplomacy, manipulation of Indian kings, military conquests like the Battle of Plassey (1757) and Battle of Buxar (1764), and brutal revenue policies, the Company drained India’s resources and wealth for over 200 years. This video explores how the East India Company transformed from a trading corporation into a colonial power, leading to the economic exploitation, social destruction, and political collapse of India before the British Crown officially took over in 1858.
